I was born in Charleston, West Virginia. My family moved to Calhoun County in Illinois and settled in the small village of Kampsville located above St. Louis, Mo. I grew up in a smalltown environment against a rural background and attended the local village school where I spent a fair amount of time day dreaming and drawing. In school the fine arts class provided an outlet for my creativity.
The first painting that I ever did was in high school art class. It was a small portrait of my dog, and I remember the teacher commenting on how she really liked it. I too liked it. Your first painting should have a special meaning and purpose...
Most of the drawings are done with graphite pencil on 90 lb. drawing papers. Some include a bit of charcoal usage. I paint mainly with artists' oil colours on heavy duty stretched canvas with a medium tooth and texture. The finished paintings are framed.
I draw and paint because the process has a sort of attraction to it allowing me to create something that I can share with the community. Sometimes I create from my own interpretation or I may see a location or object that creates the challenge. As an artist I am inspired by this region of our country and by the people that work and reside here.
